Batik is an ancient art
form that uses wax-resist techniques to create designs on cloth.
With hot wax, the designs are drawn onto the cloth using brushes and
special tools; the wax penetrates the cloth forming a 'resist' that
The cloth is then immersed in a dye bath and the
sections of cloth protected by the wax remains free of
dye. The cloth is taken through a number of overlapping
applications of wax and dye, increasing the complexity
of the design.
Finally, all the wax is
removed and the color set in a hot water application. A
hot job in a hot climate!
Although batik is created in many parts of the world, Indonesians
are world-renowned for the diversity and quality of their batik artistry. In fact
the word "batik" is Indonesian in origin. We hope you appreciate
the artistry of these carefully hand-chosen, extraordinary works of art
All of La Luna Loca's Batik clothing can be washed in cold water. It is
typically color-safe and all our fabrics have been preshrunk. Hanging to
